The Leeds United blog with Attitude
I really have to say a big “thank you” to all of those many readers of this blog who have helped it along, and for all of the many ways you’ve supported my efforts to get some provocative and hopefully entertaining articles out there on an almost daily basis. The support I’ve received has actually been phenomenal- in line with the hits on the blog (which will shortly pass the one million mark.)
In the first place, people have actually troubled to read the pieces I’ve written – I can now usually rely on at least 500 reads of any article, and more often the views run into thousands. I’m grateful too for the respondents – those who take the time and trouble to write replies to the articles and indeed to reply to other respondents; this has frequently resulted in some rewarding debate, which makes the blog feel like a livelier place. I can’t say how much I appreciate the kind comments that I get as well – at least they offset the other sort! But it’s impossible to describe just what it means to me when I read positive and constructive feedback – suffice to say that, as much as anything else, this keeps me going. There are also those who have been kind enough to share articles via Twitter or Facebook etc – and sometimes even by re-blogging them. That all helps immensely to build a regular readership – which, I’m happy to say, we’re well on the way to having.
Last, but clearly not least, my grateful thanks to all who have contributed financially to Life, Leeds United, the Universe & Everything – this has made possible much faster progress on the Leeds United book I’m working on – I’m even getting some way towards deciding upon a title! There have been big contributions and smaller ones, but each is equally valued and appreciated. It really is the thought that counts where this form of support is concerned, as much as any other.
Some people have indicated that they would like to contribute, but have found that the site’s PayPal button is not working for them. I’ve no idea why that might be, I’m afraid – but if it’s been a problem for anyone who does wish to donate – and if you’re set up to pay by PayPal – then simply use the email RobofLeeds07@aol.com – and all should work properly. I will, as I’ve previously made clear, be distributing free copies of the book when it comes out, to all donors who have contributed £10.00 or more. Sadly, there has to be this minimum level, otherwise the entire print run would be gone before I sold one book!

Rob …your blog is the first thing I look for on newsnowleeds everyday…unless we have actually signed a player or won a game (ok I may have slipped into a parallel universe here)…don’t always agree, but I guess that’s the point. Happy to donate….cant wait to read your book…hopefully you will be able to make the last chapter “2015 Return to the Premiership” …or have I slipped back into the alternative reality!

Some of your articles are interesting but you have shown your colours as a closet liverpool fan. You need to keep your ego in check and perhaps start to write for the koppites!!!

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m Leeds through and through – but I have an interest in the wider game of football – and plenty of opinions too. So I like to write more generally at times, and I believe there is a readership out there for this. As for ego – I’m a Leeds United fan – I’m entitled to an ego! And as for Liverpool – again, anyone who knows me knows that I have much more admiration and respect for Arsenal. But anyone who can’t see that Liverpool and Gerrard deserve success this season is either blind, a fool – or both.

You are entitled to your opinion, even if you have got yourself wrapped up in the ridiculous media nonsense around liverpool at the moment. I remember that your red hero was lucky to escape conviction for assault which was shown on video some years ago. I guess your red spectacles have overlooked this.

Rob, I thought your early writings were often simply nasty and aimed at those amongst us Leeds fans who were easy to persuade/ shared the same opinions as yours. I boycotted your stuff for a good few weeks but then, enticed by a few interesting headlines, started reading again. I’m very pleased that I did; you no longer write like the nasty, spiteful bastard like you used to (Soz like, but my interpretation of your endless posts slagging off others was simply that), instead, your blogs are insightful, topical, thought-provoking, humorous, interesting, and very well written! To top it all off for me was the “Kenny is fit” one, with Lampard being “endearingly chubby”… That was almost bordering on brilliance, at least for me…:). Keep it up; quality, well-written stuff is well received!!

since i started reading your blogs once twice three times a day even going back over some old ones i have found words amusing to the point caustic when i open my lap top the first thing i look for is your blog your humour and blogs are indeed spreading keep it going look forward to your book when we get back to the promised land

I have to say I am in awe of anyone who blogs regularly – not that I read many – but I do always read quality writing about things that make my world go round and this blog IS quality and its about my love affair with Leeds United. 50 years next year since I was probably the first 11 year old in Lewisham to wear an all white PE kit with a blue owl sewn on by my mum and bought by postal order from Elland Road. I haven’t agreed with everything you have written Rob [ironically I thought you went over the top about that nasty little club that could have been my ‘home’ team] but I have always admired and been strengthened by your fierce loyalty to The Whites and your wicked sense of humour. I grew up on the fabulous Revie legends and have seen many ups [not enough] and [too] many downs since then. I pray that we have started a new era of ‘ups’ with a new wealthy owner and if we have then I really look forward to doubly enjoying it with your commentary every step of the way. Great work Rob and I look forward to next season in anticipation of great reads to match great football – let’s hope so eh? MOT

Rob, The Kippax lad is obvioulsy noty old enough to remember the generous chant of “Champions” bu the Liverpool fans at Anfield when King Billy took the boys to the kop end at Anfield after we won the league for ther first time. I am you knob!

I am another one who reads and checks for more every day more than once. Here in the Philippines we are seven hours ahead of you currently, eight hours in winter so quite often I get to respond before others have seen your blog. It always makes great reading and often the truths you write may hurt the feelings of Devonians who wear red but that makes it all the better. The only thing that stopped me reading every day late last year was a slight matter of a major earthquake followed by a super typhoon and that was because we had no electric or internet for several days. At least it gave me plenty to read about once I could get back on line. Keep up the excellent work Rob !

Earthquakes and tremors are a fact of life in the Philippines and that was the first serious one to hit our island. I am just pleased our house stood up to it. The super typhoon was the largest ever to hit land and was pretty horrendous but again not too much damage to our house. Normally typhoons here hit much further north, around twenty a year, so not too much of a problem. Life is pretty normal for me, the big advantage is we don’t need winter clothing as it never cold.
The events that did happen though were pretty interesting, so long as you don’t mind being thrown literally out of bed at 8.11 am. Try getting some shorts on with the whole house and floors shaking…..that’s an interesting exercise!

I just bet it is. I’ve actually experienced 2 minor tremors here in Yorkshire over the past twenty years – they were quite enough excitement for me!
