Leeds Bielsa Talks Now on Home Straight but Suffering Cramp – by Rob Atkinson

Having been in the last mile of negotiations for the past 24 hours or so, Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa are now staggering up the home straight and expecting to reach the finishing line, which is in sight, at any time in the next hours, days, weeks or months.

The problem at this late stage is cramp. The home straight is slightly uphill and it’s been hot and muggy, so, you know. These things are never simple, and when you start tying up with the goal in sight, it gets really tricky. Fortunately, both parties have been able to take on essential isotonic supplements from a number of distinctly salty sources along the way.

More as we get it, but don’t hold your breath.

  1. I know the feeling. Feeling Paul Simonesque..I’m sat at a railway station with a ticket for my destination…Homeward Bound…no train…seemed an appropriate analogy.

It is worse than watching paint dry. We need this done so we can sign some top quality players quick.

  3. It is agony Rob.
The thought that he will collapse with 3 metres to go,
It is unthinkable (unless you are a Leeds supporter).
Steve Bruce is closing in on him!!
Which belly will cross the line first??

Is he going to claim it’s the hand of God as well as that Madonna person (I use the name advisedly). Blimey, snails can move quicker than this contract.

I want to know how he’s negotiated his job title – is it ‘head coach’ or ‘manager’? Either way, I’m sure he’ll be senior to Orta! It’s the blooming civil service that’s holding things up.

Actually, according to @WYSdaily, Bielsa sent a draft contract that he wants through to the club early today, and that it’s the Board delaying. I suppose, the fact is, none of us knows, and speculation abounds!

      • I’ve seen Adam Pope tweet just that, so I tend to believe it.

Another thought I’ve had; could it be that he’s demanded Leeds get in some of the players he requires before he’s prepared to sign on the dotted line?! In other words, asking the club to put its money where its mouth is! I know it’s not about his personal remuneration, but he doesn’t want the usual summer recruits of recent years, where fewer than one in every six turns out to be an improvement on what we’re trying to offload!
Will it all just happen at once, a bit like food poisoning, but in a nice way?! The suspenders are killing me!

      • But would these players sign without knowing the identity, signed sealed & delivered, of the coach they’d be playing for? It’s an interesting theory, but I can’t quite see it.

  6. The UK is four hours ahead of Argentina, no need to get unduly concerned just yet.
Exciting times, an eagerly anticipated appointment with real pedigree.
Huge ambition exhibited by the owner, he deserves massive credit.
