Jack Rodwell – Leeds United bound?
The identity of the fifth loanee – five is the maximum allowed – being pursued by Leeds is the subject of much speculation and now some increasingly strong internet rumours. If the Twitter chatter is to be believed, then Man City’s Jack Rodwell – young, talented, English and internationally honoured – could be about to don the famous white shirt until the end of the season.
The thing is, these days, Twitter rumours frequently do come true. Butland and Wickham – two quality recruits we would have dismissed as fanciful a few short weeks ago – were both accurately tipped in various tweets. Quality is the watchword here. We saw it in Butland against the smoggies. You can see it in Wickham just by trawling through the rage and grief on the Wendies message boards in the wake of that signing.
This influx of quality goes hand in hand with growing evidence that Massimo Cellino – FL approval doubts notwithstanding – is firmly in control at Elland Road. Another sign is the withdrawal of Enterprise Insurance’s drama-queen winding-up petition as Cellino has contemptuously paid off Flowers & Co with some loose change in his back pocket. Wages have been paid on time and in full, despite hopeful rumours in the press that the cupboard is bare down at LS11. And now, we might just be about to see the crowning glory of the Italian’s initial impact at Leeds United.
Looking at the evidence for Rodwell – he’s just what we need, and we’re now just starting to believe we can dare to dream. When Wickham signed, we were thinking, wow – follow that. And then a junior Cellino came out and said “the best is yet to come”. Rodwell is of international pedigree and would give us a fighting chance of the play-offs and advancing Cellino’s agenda by at least one season.
Could it happen? We’re likely to find out soon, this guy moves fast. Somebody else is coming in, and we can confidently expect more quality to enhance our first-choice team. Cellino appears to mean business – watch this space and get ready for a hell of a ride.
Dodgy ground. I am actually getting optimistic. This is uncharted territory. I feel out of my LUFC doom-and-gloom comfort zone. Is this really happening? Who is this glass shaded man daring to do things that us Leeds fans just aren’t used to any more, good players, investment and well, feeling, er, happy….
The king is here. Long live the King!

Rather than making snide remarks about Enerprise’s winding up petitition, you might like to look at how GFH handled it. Basically they denied the debt existed, and then challenged Enterprise to appoint a liquidator. They were clearly more than happy for the club to cease to exist rather than pay what they clearly owed. The fact that Enterprise did not follow the GFH proposal is a because Flowers is a fan. GFH are utterly without credibility and should get out now.

I shall, of course, carry on being as snide as I please about whoever I choose.

Rather than admit you bought GFH’s spin and smeared a genuine Leeds fan who’d put millions of pounds into keeping the club stable, you mean? Classy.

Apparently.

Ian, You must be dreaming. GFH are up to their necks in at least £30 million of investment in Leeds and losing more everyday. Do you really think GFH share-holders would say f**k it, we aren’t paying you Mr.Flowers, go ahead and liquidate us.
What is even more ‘snidy’ is Flowers pathectic statement after the messiah paid him off: ““Enterprise Insurance acted responsibly and with great care for the club. It offered to withdraw its petition on the basis that the club agreed to comply with its contractual obligations in relation to the payment of certain monies due”. Classic words, “great care”, “resonsibly”, don’t make me laugh. Flowers knew he’d get the money back when the “messiah” buys the club, and he has. Flowers and GFH can all f**k off, Cellino has done more in one month than that lot did in Eighteen months.
I bow to the new Messiah, MOT.

Sadly for you and me, GFH are definitely not going anywhere, and the slimy Mr Haigh is getting his feet even further under the table. I don’t share your view of Flowers’ actions and we’ll just have to agree to disagree on that.

Agreeing to disagree can be agreeable though, don’t you agree?

If this is true and Rodwell DOES sign, that would mean Cellino would be a close contender just behind david moyes for man of the year. Such a shame we wasted 2 of our allotted 5 loan places though.

Now that is well said if it was me I would boot kebe and Stewart back to their clubs they create more problems than they are solving for us

Whilst Rodwell would obviously be a great addition, I’m daring to dream that we could get Wes Hoolahan until the end of the season ; a signing I believe would nigh-on guarantee a play-off position.
What do you reckon?

I’d be equally ecstatic over either tbh

After all these years of wondering why no one has come in for a club with so much potential maybe this is our new dawn. If this comes off and we are back where we belong, Massimo Cellino will wonder what has hit him. “Per Ardua ad Astra”.

I’m firmly Pro-Cellino now to be honest mate. Seems to be backing us for the first time in a LONG time.
Hopefully can snag a quality midfielder to help us link up and create more chances.

Can I dare to dream that Noel Hunt, who makes Frank Strandli look like John Charles, will never again pull on the white shirt?

feel same as Russell, out of comfort zone, all to often in the last 10 years to much promise and nothing materialising. After seeing Butland saving our blushes at Boro, and master Wickham choosing the right team in Yorkshire, much to wendies dismay. So pinch me am I dreaming, Jack Rodwell would be a cherry on the top. What I am loving is the Family Massimo are embracing our club and kissing us on both cheeks. we are yet to see mama Massimo, but it will spaghetti ana meatballs ana pleni garlic all washed down at halftime, with Yorkshire tea!!! belissima am loving this would really like to have seen capt kirks face at Enterprise when that payment was made smug bugger ….. you threaten us we breaka your face….. sleep with the fishes!!!!! ha ha

Unfair comment on Noel Hunt for me. He is a 110 percenter and if given game time will come good. Stewart will disappear of the radar but Kebbe is a worry to me. He just doesn’t look comfortable at Leeds.
I think if we had left it for a few weeks we would have seen Gradel arrive. Anyway a quality midfielder would ice the cake for this season.

you guys need to calm down…….. these are 2 month loan signings.
It is indeed a good sign of intent and ambition and IF we got promotion on the back of loanies then its a nice problem to have. However it is a problem if we got promoted.
I figure we’d need 1 striker, 3 midfielders, a top class CB and a top class goal keeper to stay up. Then there’s the lack of quality in the squad. So 8 players minimum. Then those 8 players have to gel and settle in which can take time as many clubs have found out. QPR springs to mind.
Obviously the best scenario would be if we could sign Wickham and Butland on permanently in the Summer but I think they would be too expensive !

Forgive me AndyS but both signings are for 3 months. Unfortunately so are Stewart and kebbe. Tragically, hunt is also here until the summer.

I must admit I wasn’t too keen on Cellino to start with but I’m finding myself getting a bit excited about the whole thing. It’ll be interesting to see how McDermott does with a bit of cash and a wider range of players to choose from. Still think he has the ability to get us to the premiership and with Cellino’s backing I’m looking forward to the journey!

We get a player who was on loan at Barnsley, a player who was on loan at Sheff Wed and there’s rumours of getting a player on loan who has been injured all season and everyone thinks we’re going to storm up the table?
We still have a comedy manager.
We brought in what looked like quality loans under Grayson but it didn’t help us because he was a comedy manager.
When we brought loans in with Bates as chairman people complained he wasn’t spending money, now they’re excited about Cellino doing it?

Yeah true but least it looks like it won’t just be loans of players at the back end of their careers. He seems as if he’ll put his hand in his pocket in the summer but I could be really wrong. So I guess the summer will be the true test. I for one am feeling optimistic of the times to come, mainly because I’m sick of the club going no where and I’m daring to dream again! MOT
