Manuel Pellegrini vows to go for Champions League jugular as Man City host Bayern Munich

City are as well-equipped to succeed in Europe as they have ever been, and should fear no-one, certainly not Bayern. They should be able to build on an emphatic opening to their Champions League campaign by edging this one.


Manuel Pellegrini insists his Manchester City side have no intention of playing it safe when Bayern Munich visit the Etihad Stadium.

The Germans come to England tomorrow as champions of Europe and with a fearsome attacking armoury at manager Pep Guardiola’s disposal.

However, Pellegrini’s strong Champions League reputation, having taken Villarreal to the semi-finals and Malaga to the last eight, was one of the main reasons City hired him in the summer and the Chilean believes it is imperative his side are prepared to take it to Bayern from the off.

He said: ‘We never think about a draw. Of course if we cannot win it’s better to draw than lose but we’re not going to go onto the pitch thinking [of] a draw against Bayern. From the first minute we will go to win the three points.
